FAQ & About

About Vin Facts Check

Vin Facts Check helps used-car buyers and sellers get clear, trustworthy vehicle facts fast. We deliver title and history records from a commercial NMVTIS-approved data provider, presented in a report anyone can understand.

What is a VIN?

A 17-character code unique to each vehicle since 1981. It encodes the manufacturer, model details and a check digit.

Why did my VIN fail validation?

VINs never use I, O or Q, and the 9th character is a mathematical check digit. A failure usually means a typo.

What's free and what's paid?

VIN validation is free (a free vehicle preview is coming soon). Title, accident, odometer, salvage, theft, owner and lien history are part of the paid report: Standard $9.99, or Premium $14.99, which adds auction history and auction photos.

What is NMVTIS?

The National Motor Vehicle Title Information System, a federal database of title and brand information from state DMVs, insurers and salvage yards.

Does a clean report guarantee a car is problem-free?

No. Not every event is reported. Always pair a report with a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic.

Can I search by license plate?

Plate search is coming soon. For now, please use the VIN.

How do I get a refund?

Contact us within 30 days if your report returned no records; we'll review and refund where appropriate.
